WebThis nerve is the fourth set of cranial nerves (CN IV or cranial nerve 4). It is a motor nerve that sends signals from the brain to the muscles. CN IV works with the oculomotor nerve and other eye muscles to control eye movement. WebAn acquired oculomotor nerve palsy (OMP) results from damage to the third cranial nerve. It can present in different ways causing somatic extraocular muscle dysfunction (superior, inferior, and medial recti; inferior oblique; and levator palpebrae superioris) and autonomic (pupillary sphincter and ciliary) muscles.
