I've tried taking the paces from the one dead skeleton in the area, no luck. There is one skeleton corpse in the NE area, but 8 paces southwest from him (and around him) doesn't lead to a chest. Maybe look for a skeleton with a leg chained or crushed by an anchor.

I found a cage near the lagoon and followed the riddles instructions of 20 paces east by north east, but that brought me to a tree and I can't dig. Can't find any other cage on the island. A lot of times, people will just run around with their lantern raised, but that won’t activate the next part. You gotta actually stop on the area then do what the riddle says.
